This is a one day clay workshop focused on hand-building beloved Tea Pets.

Tea Pets are small unglazed clay figurines that you keep on your tea tray. They’re for fun, good luck, or reminders of aspirations. They’re often characters from old fables, remind us of seasonal changes, the zodiac, or anything you like! When serving tea, you can pour tea over them to honor the theme they represent. The unglazed clay absorbs the tea and continues to change color over time.

I’ll start by introducing you to their ancient history that dates back over 1000 years and some of their classic forms and their stories.

Then I’ll demonstrate some classic techniques to form the clay into a tea pet from your own imagination and design.

Your Tea Pets will be fired to Cone 6 (2210 degrees F.) in the electric kiln.

I’m also offering the opportunity to have your Tea Pets fired in the Yukti wood kiln too. I’ll share more about this at the workshop.

No experience needed.

All Clay and tools are provided though you may bring your own if you have them.

All Heart Fire Sanctuary workshops are offered freely, though a minimum fee of $1.00 is required to complete registration below. Please email heartfiresanctuary@gmail.com with any questions.
